CJIP (Criminal Justice Interventions Programme)

What is CJIP?
CJIP is a major part of the new measure in the Governments Drug Strategy. It aims to take advantage of the opportunities within the criminal justice system for accessing drug misusing offenders and moving them away from drug use and criminal behaviour and into treatment. The emphasis will be on throughcare and aftercare, providing a seamless service provision, linking prison, police custody, prison, probation, treatment services within health and housing. CJIP began in April 2003 in certain areas of Britain that suffer the highest levels of acquisitive crime (mostly theft offences such as burglary and shoplifting). Police forces were serviced by the DAATs within their areas to assist with the roll out of the scheme. In Cambridgeshire, CJIP will begin in April 2004 and funding is currently being allocated to fund floating support workers in each district area, to compliment the work of existing staff with the services CJIP will involve.

As new developments are made, this page will be updated. Recruitment of a CJIP Co-Coordinator is underway.
