Cambridgeshire DAAT Briefing - June 2005
The “Cambridgeshire Drug & Alcohol Action Team Briefing” aims to provide information regarding the current work of the DAAT partnership in tackling substance misuse across the county. GENERAL NEWS
- The Cambridgeshire DAAT Website is being regularly updated, for more information on the work of DAAT, please visit www.cambsdaat.org
- The DAAT Information Officer, Laura Hutson and DAAT Young Peoples Co-ordinator, Veronica Callanan, are both leaving within the next month and are thanked for their hard work since early last year. Interviews are being held at the end of the month. Please bear with us in the interim as all meetings may not be attended by DAAT Officers.
- The DAAT recently produced information cards and Drug and Alcohol Service Directories, which were circulated to a number of agencies, if you would like more copies, please contact us and we can send them on to you.
YOUNG PEOPLE
- The Balding Survey has now been analysed, if you would like further details, please contact the DAAT Office
- “Supporting Professionals” substance misuse training for those working with young people continues. If you work with young people and would like to know more, please contact PSHE on 01480 375 171, or visit the website.
- v The DAAT Young Peoples Handbook is currently being printed, this is aimed at those working at a general level with young people (not specialist workers), if you would like a copy please contact the DAAT Office.
COMMUNITIES
- The DAAT Office have been attending events to highlight the work to tackle drug misuse, giving out information about drug and alcohol services, promoting FRANK etc. Stands were at Strawberry Fair, East Of England Show and Arbury Carnival. If you are aware of an event or your agency are attending an event, and you would like any literature to give to members of the public, please contact us.
- The Drug Interventions Programme, is operational and screening all adults identified as Persistent or prolific offenders. Funding has been obtained by the Home Office to further develop accommodation support for clients. For more information, contact Emma.
- Work highlighting the dangers of Drug Driving continues with Radio adverts and events across the county, including a simulated car crash in St Ives High Street on 14th July.
TREATMENT
- Jessica Benning started in may as the DAAT Structured Day Care Co-ordinator. Jess is compiling a database of activities for clients across the county, which drug services can access via the internet. Jess can assist in setting up a programme for clients and ensuring the cost of this is covered. She will be contacting a number of agencies to find out what is available in the local area and is very keen to speak directly to clients to ensure the activities meet the needs of clients. - The Adult Drug Treatment Strategy for 2005-2008 is in draft format at present and we welcome your comments and feedback, for a copy, please contact Lisa.
- Overdose training is being held for drug users throughout the county and is very popular, if you have a group who would be interested in this training, please contact dialdruglink, Bridgegate or The Bridge.
AVAILABILITY
- The police have recruited a Drug Strategy manager, Ian Southcott. Ian's role is to ensure the police are fully involved with all areas of the drug strategy, from drug education in schools to the Closure of Crack Houses.
