Key Objectives
- To help young people resist drug misuse to achieve their full potential in society;
- To protect our communities from drug-related anti-social and criminal behaviour;
- To enable people with drug-related problems to overcome them and live healthy and crime-free lives; and
- To disrupt the supply of drugs.
On a local level there are strong links between tackling substance misuse problems and other local strategies.
Examples of these include health inequalities, sexual health teenage pregnancy, social inclusion initiatives and
Crime & Disorder Reduction Partnerships.
Cambridgeshire DAAT is concerned with the misuse of alcohol, and expects to carry out the same role for
tackling alcohol misuse after the Government publishes its national alcohol strategy in March 2004.
In our area, the response to substance misuse has been co-ordinated by the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Drug
and Alcohol Action Teams (DAATs). The two teams work closely together on aspects of mutual interest, in particular
treatment and care services, and services for young people.
